Section Control ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our Shopify application.

Information We Collect

Store Information

When you install Section Control, we collect and store:

• Shop domain — Your myshopify.com domain to identify your store
• Shop name and email — Basic store information for account management
• Shop timezone — To display scheduling times correctly
• Shopify plan — To understand usage patterns

Theme Information (Read-Only)

We read (but do not store or modify) your theme data to:

• Display available sections in the rule creation form
• Detect section visibility status
• Build preview URLs for testing

Rules Data

We store the display window rules you create:

• Rule name, theme, page type, and section ID
• Schedule dates (start and end times in UTC)
• Rule status (enabled/disabled)

Information We Do NOT Collect

• Customer data — We never access your customers' personal information
• Order data — We do not access orders, transactions, or payment information
• Visitor analytics — Our storefront script does not track or send any visitor data to our servers
• Product content — We only read basic product/collection data to generate preview URLs

How We Use Information

We use the collected information solely to:

• Provide the Section Control service (scheduling section visibility)
• Display your themes and sections in the app interface
• Generate preview URLs for testing rules
• Maintain and improve the application

Data Storage and Security

• All data is stored securely in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon (neon.tech)
• Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
• Access to data is restricted to authenticated requests from your Shopify store
• We use Shopify's session storage for secure authentication

Data Retention

• Active installations — Your rules and settings are retained while the app is installed
• After uninstall — We retain your data for 30 days in case you reinstall. After 30 days, all your data (rules, settings) is permanently deleted
• Session data — Authentication sessions expire according to Shopify's policies

Third-Party Services

Section Control uses the following third-party services:

• Shopify — Platform provider, handles authentication and API access
• Neon — Database hosting provider

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.

Storefront Script

Our app injects a small JavaScript file on your storefront to apply display window rules. This script:

• Fetches active rules from our server (authenticated via Shopify App Proxy)
• Applies CSS classes to show/hide sections based on the current time
• Does NOT track visitors, collect analytics, or send any visitor data to our servers
• Does NOT use cookies (except for preview mode, which uses localStorage briefly)

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — View all your rules and data within the app
• Delete — Delete individual rules or uninstall the app to remove all data
• Export — Contact us to request an export of your data
• Correction — Edit your rules at any time through the app interface

GDPR Compliance

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process data based on:

• Contractual necessity — To provide the service you've requested
• Legitimate interest — To maintain and improve our application

You may request data deletion at any time by uninstalling the app or contacting us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
